The Utah Consumer Privacy Act is one of five new privacy laws taking effect in 2023. Does your business need to be compliant?
Utah’s governor signed a number of bills in March and April related to personal data, including a minor change to the Utah Consumer Privacy Act (UCPA), the state’s comprehensive data privacy law.
The UCPA amendment is straightforward. The original version of the UCPA did not grant consumers the right to correct inaccuracies in their personal data; with this new change, consumers will now have that right.
Virtually every other U.S. state privacy law gives consumers a right to correct (with Iowa being the exception), so the amendment should not add much regulatory burden to businesses that are already broadly privacy-compliant. However, the bill does give businesses plenty of time to get ready, with an effective date of July 1, 2026.
TrueVault helps companies of all sizes get compliant with data privacy laws and, just as importantly, stay compliant. As new privacy laws are passed and existing laws are changed, TrueVault US customers get support for those changes at no additional cost.
